Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice

This notice explains how Makuro handles “consumer health data” under Washington’s My Health My Data Act and Nevada’s consumer health data law. If you’re not in Washington or Nevada, don’t worry — we protect everyone’s health data the same way. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

Consumer health data we collect

  • Body metrics you enter, such as weight, height, age range, and sex.
  • Nutrition and food logs, and the goals and activity level you set.
  • Meal photos, when you choose to log a meal by photo.
  • Body-weight data from Apple Health, with your permission.

Where it comes from

We collect this data directly from you as you use the app, and — only with your permission — from Apple Health.

How we use it

Solely to provide the features you ask for: logging, calorie and macro targets, trends, and meal-photo recognition. We do not use your health data for advertising.

Who we share it with

We share consumer health data only with providers that help deliver the app:

  • Anthropic — to recognize the meal photos you submit (the Claude API), via our backend, which does not retain your images.
  • Apple — for iCloud sync of your data across your devices, and the App Store, under Apple’s terms.
  • Where required by law, or to protect rights and safety.

We do not sell your consumer health data, and we do not share it for advertising.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access and review the health data associated with you;
  • Delete your health data — you can edit or delete logged data in the app, and revoke Apple Health access in iOS Settings;
  • Withdraw consent to our collection and sharing of your health data.

To make a request, email support@makuro.ai. We will verify and respond as required by law. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our response; if you are still unsatisfied, you may contact your state attorney general.

Changes

We may update this notice; material changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
